ARF Administrator Continuing Education
California requires 40 CEU hours every 2 years. Take the complete renewal in one package, or add only the hours you are still missing. Every course is CDSS-approved, and your Certificate of Completion is issued as soon as you finish.
RCFE & ARF administrator renewal
Both certificates run on a 40-hour, 2-year cycle. Here is how the hours break down.

How CDSS counts the hours
Important rules to know when completing your administrator continuing education.
- 10 hours a day maximum. Live and self-paced online combined. Anything past 10 in 1 day is not counted.
- Up to 20 hours may be self-paced online. At least 20 of the 40 hours must be completed in an approved live format.
- A course counts once per cycle. Taking the same course again does not earn the hours twice.
- Only CDSS-approved courses count. Approved self-paced online courses are allowed. Unapproved home-study or correspondence courses do not qualify.
- Initial certification training does not count. ICTP hours cannot be used for renewal.
- Regional Center hours may count. Up to 24 hours of Department of Developmental Services training approved by the Regional Center can count toward the 40.
